Life Is an Adventure

I'm starting this blog in hopes that it can serve as a family journal of sorts.  This communication venue is a bit more open then private email.  It's easier to share.  It's more thoughtful than facebook.  I've hesitated to start a family blog because we're told that predators are looking for our kids.  Predators need more than a name and an address.  They need private access to kids on a continuing basis.  But, as a precaution, we'll keep to first names only and keep our exact address to ourselves.  We'll continue to teach correct principles to our children and lend them a bit of trust. Yes, there is a risk in everything we do.

I originally wanted to name this blog "Our Family Adventure".  I like to view life as an adventure.  In addition to finding adventure in every day life, I seek adventure as a pass time.  As a family we don't vacation to the same spot every year.  We like to trod new ground.  Our biggest adventure was an epic trip from the West to the East with a tent trailer.  I'd like to write about those kinds of adventures.  But there are also things I want to write about that aren't tied to a specific adventure.  There is joy to be had in the little things that happen every day.  The concept of a never ending journey seemed more apt.

Thomas Monson gave an address in 2008 that spoke of finding joy in every moment.

This is our one and only chance at mortal life—here and now. The longer we live, the greater is our realization that it is brief. Opportunities come, and then they are gone. I believe that among the greatest lessons we are to learn in this short sojourn upon the earth are lessons that help us distinguish between what is important and what is not. I plead with you not to let those most important things pass you by as you plan for that illusive and nonexistent future when you will have time to do all that you want to do. Instead, find joy in the journey—now.

This address resonated with me.  Not because I'm an expert on on the topic, but because I need this reminder as much as anyone.  I think "Joy in the Journey" is a great theme for our blog.  It encompasses our adventures, our every activities, and shared goal of finding joy.
